Birchwood - 26th September 2013
This competition was for the final event of the season, The Peter MurphyTrophy
played over 18 holes stableford off full handicap at Birchwood Golf Club. This event is open to
all ICL employees not just society members. There are no society handicap
reductions for this event, and everyone plays off their full club handicap. The
Peter Murphy Trophy does not count towards the Order of Merit.
The attendance was again very good with 26 people from Fujitsu/ICL and 1 guest.
The weather was quite favourable and there were a number of good scores.

Overall winner The overall winner was Tim Whitehead with
a very impressive 40 points off a handicap of 13. Tim has had a poor season with
the society by his standards. He was pleased with his performance having had a
very poor result in his last outing at Ashton-under-Lyne. |

with 35 points off 19 to take the Division 2 prize. |
|

He is beginning to make a habit of this having one one earlier in the year at
Didsbury |

Twos
There were six twos. One each for Tim Spencer, Paul MacDonald, Tim Whitehead, Jon
Paul Stanhope, George Maddison and Chih's guest Rob Tabron.
There would actually have been another two for Paul MacDonald (myself), but
unfortunately his playing partner did not have the strength to remove the flag,
before the ball dropped in the hole at the 4th. This is the second time that I
have suffered an issue with the flag stick in the Peter Murphy Trophy.
Fortunately this one only cost me two shots. In the previous incident some 20
years ago, the ball was knocked off the green for a two shot penalty, and it
took a further two shots to get down.
Because this was the last event of the season presentations were made to the
winners of season long events. The Plate Trophy has still to be decided.
The Order of Merit Winner.

The winner of this season's Order
of Merit was Paul Higgs. It was very close with Paul just pipping Peter Walters. |
|

|

|
Knockout Runner Up The runner up was Norman Jamison. |
